What do your people need to reach?

Using it in more than one place? Add each location with its own object size and ceiling height.

How many people work at height at once?

One user: the M100 jib reaches 2.3 m and the single-user M200 reaches 4.6 m. Choose two users and the M200 dual rail (3.7 m reach) or the two-user A-Frame and ladder systems are offered instead.

Forklift or telehandler on site needed for off-loading, assembly and moving a jib

A 2.5 t truck moves an M100 jib in one piece. An M200 is 5.7 t complete: a 6 t lift moves it whole, a 2.5 t truck moves it in parts, lifting the counterweight boxes off and moving the base with the mast on it separately.

If the rail cannot pass under the lowest point at its working height, an adjustable mast is specified so it can be wound down for moving. If it will not clear even wound down, no standard system is offered for that route and FPS will advise; taking the mast off its base does not lower it. For a permanent position this is the route in from delivery.

Which Flexiguard system: davit jib, A-Frame or ladder?

All three give a certified overhead anchor for a self-retracting lifeline where there is nothing to fix to. They differ in how far they reach, how many people they protect and whether they also provide access.

Supplied, assembled and commissioned by Fall Protection Solutions

Fall Protection Solutions has designed, installed and inspected fall protection systems across the UK since 2006 and is an authorised distributor for 3M DBI-SALA Flexiguard engineered systems. We do not simply ship a crate: we attend delivery, help your forklift team assemble the system, pour the concrete ballast for counterweight bases, set the mast height, commission the system and train your people on it, including the RSQ self-rescue procedure on the Sealed-Blok lifeline.

What the quotation includes

The 3M system itself with delivery to mainland UK, poured concrete ballast where a counterweight base is used, our attendance for assembly and commissioning, and the options you tick: overload clutch for drill-powered height adjustment, castor kits, stabilising jacks, forklift pocket and lifting ring kits, tow bars, Sealed-Blok RSQ self-retracting lifelines, ExoFit XE200 harnesses and user training. Lead time is about 90 days from order; 30% is payable with the order and the balance within 14 days of delivery.

Standards and engineering review

Flexiguard jibs, A-Frames and ladder systems are CE marked to EN 795:2012 Type B and CEN/TS 16415:2013 for the stated number of users, with a maximum arrest force of 6 kN when used with a 3M self-retracting lifeline. The configurator applies 3M's working-area rules (30° swing limit, 1.82 m working radius) to the dimensions you enter. Every configuration is reviewed by Tom Rimmington before order, and anything needing site-specific design, ground assessment or a non-standard height is flagged for FPS review rather than quoted as final.

Frequently asked questions

What is a Flexiguard mobile fall arrest system?

3M DBI-SALA Flexiguard is a range of engineered, free-standing overhead anchor systems — davit-style jibs, rolling A-Frame gantries and ladder systems — that give workers a certified overhead anchor point for a self-retracting lifeline where there is no structure to fix to, such as on top of vehicles, tankers, rail wagons, containers and plant.

Do I need a davit jib, an A-Frame or a ladder system?

A jib suits work within 2.3 m to 4.6 m of a mast placed beside the vehicle and is the lowest-cost option. An A-Frame straddles the vehicle so two people can work across the full width and the frame is rolled along the length. The free standing ladder system is the answer when people also need steps and a platform to get on top. The configurator applies these rules to your dimensions and shows every option with the reasons.

How high can the anchor be?

Jib masts run from 3.0 m to 9.1 m and A-Frames from 4.6 m to 9.1 m rail height. The anchor must sit above the worker's dorsal D-ring, so working surfaces up to about 7 m high can be protected with standard equipment.

Can one person work on each side of a vehicle at the same time?

Yes. The M200 dual-user jib has two independent by-passing rails, each rated for one worker, and all A-Frame and ladder systems are rated for two users.

Does the system need fixing to the ground?

No. Counterweight-base jibs, A-Frames and ladder systems are free-standing. We pour the concrete ballast for counterweight bases on site rather than supplying pre-cast blocks. Floor and flush mounted bases are available for a permanent position on a designed foundation.

What is the lead time and payment schedule?

Flexiguard systems are built to order by 3M with a lead time of about 90 days. Terms are 30% with order and the balance within 14 days of delivery. Delivery to mainland UK is included.

What do I need on site?

A forklift or telehandler with an operator to off-load the delivery and lift components during assembly, and a firm, level standing. We bring everything else, including the concrete for the ballast boxes.
